Indian Independence Day Party

  • Cultivate the City 910 Bladensburg Road Northeast Washington United States (map)

Join us for a fun day full of activities and offerings as we celebrate India's 72nd Independence Day on our rooftop farm. We grow a variety of Indian and other ethnic crops that we would love to share with you! Attend our free garden workshop, check out the items in our silent auction and taste some delicious home-grown and prepared Indian food!

Activites:

-Free giveaways for first 50 attendees - a holy basil plant to jumpstart your garden and henna packet to make your own designs

- Workshop on Indian and Ethnic Home Gardening that showcases some unique crops that you can grow right here in DC including (but not limited to): Curry Tree, Moringa (you'll get a chance to taste samples provided by Kuli Kuli), Bitter Melon, Valore Beans, Holy Basil (Tulsi), Passionfruit, Papalo, Culantro (not a typo- look it up!), Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Peppers) and much more! Learn all about what these plants are, how to identify and grow them, and most importantly, how to cook with them! Workshop will start at 11 AM sharp! - $5 tickets

-Taste and enjoy some of our unique food and drinks made with our homegrown crops right from the rooftop. We will be offering pakoras or vegetable fritters and samosas with homemade chutneys, other appetizers and finger food and of course drinks! A $15 prepaid tickets gets you a plate of appetizers and a free drink ticket, but extra food and drinks will also be available a la carte. Food and drinks will be available starting at 12 PM.

- Drinks will be prepared (and available for purchase) by Charismatic Creations which provides professional bartending services, craft charismatic cocktails and helps create memories for all events!

- Silent Plant (and other garden treats) Auction where you can score some of the unique plants from above and more from our private collection of plants. Some plants will go on firesale, some will have bidding wars- just come prepped with the knowledge of what you want to add to your collection and we'll help make it happen! We will also have packages of finished food products made by our partners and students here in DC, Root Pouches, garden consultations and much more. Proceeds from the plant auction will go towards creating a new vertical strawberry farm in Gujarat, India and going to employ local farmers and farmhands to cultivate this new space and help officially jumpstart Cultivate India! Thank you for your contributions and please contact us directly at info@cultivatethecity, if you would like to make a direct donation to help support these efforts. - FREE-
